Howlelujah Spay Days: Taking Proven Impact on the Road
A scalable, cost-effective mobile sterilisation model that saves lives, reduces suffering, and multiplies impact—starting now. Building on our successful Montagu and Wesbank Spay Days, we're ready to bring this proven approach to another community in urgent need.
Who We Are: Howlelujah Foundation
Howlelujah Foundation began in January 2020 — but the dream began long before that.
From a young age, Miquel, also known as Micky, knew her life’s work would be to protect animals who had no voice. What started as a deep, personal calling became impossible to ignore as she witnessed animals in surrounding communities falling through the cracks, suffering quietly, with no one coming fast enough to help.
Howlelujah was born from that moment. A commitment to show up, to stay, and to create real change for animals and the people who care for them in South Africa. From there, Michelle joined the team. Every day she works on the ground to ensure our animals are cared for, while connecting with new families and welcoming them into the Howlelujah program and our growing movement.
We don’t try to do everything. We focus on doing what works—well.
Why Communities Need This Now
Wesbank is a community we have actively supported daily for 6 years, yet the unchecked population of unsterilised dogs and cats continues to create a devastating cycle of suffering. Our feeding and care programmes offer temporary relief, but the root cause of overpopulation undermines all our efforts. With 3100 sterilisations completed, we have proven what’s possible — and are now ready to expand our reach and multiply impact.
67,000
Potential puppies in 6 years
An unsterilised female dog and her offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies over 6 years.
6-8
Average Litter Size
Leading to thousands of unwanted births annually.
25%
Annual Population Growth
Without intervention, the problem escalates rapidly.
The consequences are heartbreaking: endless litters born into poverty, preventable suffering for animals and families alike, and long-term strain on the same households we help every month. Sterilisation is the single most powerful intervention we can make—once-off action, lifelong impact. It's the key to breaking this cycle permanently.
Our Solution
A Smarter Approach to Sterilisation
Convert Community Spaces
We're transforming the Westbank school hall into a fully functional pop-up veterinary clinic, bringing professional care directly to the community.
Eliminate Overhead Costs
No transport fees for families. No expensive clinic rent. No long-term facility overheads. Every rand goes towards actual sterilisations.
Maximise Impact
By removing barriers and reducing costs, we can sterilise more animals, faster, and create lasting change in the communities that need it most.
Learning From a Proven Global Model
Our founder, Miquel, undertook a crucial visit to the Soi Dog Foundation in Thailand. This wasn't just a trip; it was an immersive learning experience focused on understanding their operational model, veterinary execution, and long-term sterilisation strategies.
Soi Dog's phenomenal success is a testament to this systematic approach: over 1.6 million dogs and cats sterilised and vaccinated, leading to the elimination of the stray dog population in Phuket through consistent, high-volume preventative care.
This direct, firsthand learning from a global leader has been instrumental in shaping the efficient, effective mobile vet model we are now developing and implementing locally. Soi Dog validates our belief: investing in sustainable systems, rather than one-off interventions, is the true path to lasting animal welfare.
This Model Is Proven: Our Montagu Success!
Real Results, Real Impact
This model is not theoretical—it's proven. In Montagu (Koo Valley), we've already demonstrated that this approach works brilliantly.
We successfully converted community spaces into temporary clinics, sterilised hundreds of animals safely and professionally, and reduced costs dramatically compared to traditional clinic models.
Perhaps most importantly, community trust increased significantly. When veterinary care comes to the community rather than requiring travel, families engage more readily. The impact was immediate and measurable, with visible reductions in stray populations and suffering within months.
Wesbank is the next logical step in scaling this proven model.
How the Mobile Vet Model Works
We partner with a fully equipped mobile veterinarian to deliver the same high medical standards you'd find in a permanent facility—but with far greater flexibility and lower costs.
01
Sterile Surgical Stations
Professional surgical setups inside community halls, meeting all veterinary safety standards.
02
High-Volume Spay Days
Efficient operations allow us to sterilise multiple animals safely in a single day.
03
No Permanent Facility Costs
We operate without the burden of rent, utilities, or long-term property commitments.
Same medical standards. Lower costs. Bigger reach.
Our Commitment Doesn’t End on Spay Day
Sterilisation is the intervention — but care is the relationship.
1
Food on Discharge
Animals go home with food to support recovery and ease household strain.
2
Automatic Entry Into Our Feeding Programme
Sterilised animals are enrolled into our ongoing feeding support.
3
Post-Spay Follow-Ups
We return to check healing, recovery, and overall wellbeing.
4
Continued Veterinary Support
Animals needing further care are identified and supported through our vet network.
Education is the foundation of sustainability. Without informed families, sterilisation alone cannot succeed. By educating caregivers on animal health, nutrition, and responsible ownership, we ensure every intervention leads to long-term wellbeing — not repeat crisis.

Why Mobile Beats Fixed: The Economics
Traditional Fixed Clinic
High monthly rent and utilities
Limited to one geographic area
Helps only nearby communities
Expensive overhead drains funds
Difficult to scale or adapt
Our Mobile Model
Minimal overhead costs
Moves where the need is greatest
Scales across multiple communities
Every rand funds actual sterilisations
Enables rotational spay days monthly
This is how we avoid stagnation and keep impact moving. Rather than being tied to one location, we can respond dynamically to need, building momentum across the region.
Trust & Transparency
We build trust through clarity, not promises. Here’s how we ensure accountability:
Full Line-Item Budget
Detailed breakdown of all costs provided upfront.
Post-Event Financial Summary
Comprehensive report on how funds were utilised.
Inventory & Medical Usage Tracking
Records of all supplies and treatments administered.
Respectful Visual Documentation
Ethical capturing of the day's events and impact.
Proven Reporting from Montagu
Leveraging established success metrics and accountability standards.
Open Communication
Clear, consistent dialogue before, during, and after the event.
Our goal is long-term partnership, not once-off funding.
From One-Off Event to Lasting System
This Spay Day is just the starting point. Our vision extends far beyond a single successful event—we're building sustainable infrastructure for ongoing impact.
Build Retainer Partnership
Establish ongoing relationship with Dr Elizna for consistent availability
Guaranteed Monthly Sterilisations
Set number of procedures every month, creating predictable pipeline
Rotate Through Communities
Serve multiple high-need areas systematically across the region
From once-off events to sustained monthly impact. This is how we create permanent change—not just manage problems, but systematically eliminate them at the source.
Why This Matters Now
We Have Everything We Need
We already know this model works—Montagu proved it conclusively. We have the experienced veterinarian ready to go. We have the community space secured and the local trust established. We have the proven model and the operational expertise.
What we need now is a partner who believes in smart growth, proven systems, and real change.
This is how we stop the cycle of suffering—not just manage it temporarily, but break it permanently. One community at a time. One Spay Day at a time. Building towards a future where every animal in our care communities has the chance for a healthy, dignified life.
Together, we can sterilise more animals, help more communities, and change the future.
